About this cultural self-portrait ...
The cultural or ethnic self-portrait on the left celebrates Manchu people's self identity as an unique ethnic group within the mainstream American Civilization. The Heaven Lake of the Holy Forever-White Mountain (the Changbai Mountain) on the top is the cradle of the 5,000 year old Manchu Civilization; the eagle on the top left signifies American patriotism; and the gyrfalcon on the top right is the totem of the Manchu Nation and the symbol of Manchu people's faithfulness to their unique cultural values. The heart and peace signs on the forehead signify Manchu people's love for social and ethnic peace and cooperation. The lotus flower at the bottom left corner is the symbol of Buddhism, the traditional faith of the Manchu people, and the ginseng root at the bottom right corner is an herb grown in Manchuria, symbolic of economic prosperity and physical health.
