Figure CTN-18. The Double Facades of A Rocky Legacy, created with markers and color pencils. This cartoon uses the scene of rocks in the Monument Valley as a basis to symbolically comment on the lasting legacy of the united States President Donald Trump, with one façade of hope and dialog and the other of anger and vigilance, representing both of his long-term positive and controversial impacts on American and global politics. In the artist's opinion, President Trump so far has accomplished a few good works that should have been completed by the politicians of both Democratic and Republican Parties at least 15 to 20 years ago, although his other policies are still controversial or not so-constructive; nevertheless, his intentions to "make America Great Again" is generally speaking sincere and genuine.
Cartoons on Hong Kong and Taiwan Issues
Figure CTN-18. Lovely Cat and Dog Celebrating New Life. This cartoon celebrates the passage of the amendment to the Animal Protection Act by the Legislative Chamber of Taiwan, China, to prohibit the slaughter of cats and dogs, an out-of-dated and controversial practice in traditional Chinese cuisine.
Figure CTN-21. The Collapsing One Hundred Years Old Black Shop. This cartoon describes the dilemma nowadays facing the Chinese Nationalist Party in Taiwan; originally a revolutionary organization with socialistic tendencies, the Chinese Nationalist Party under Chiang Kai-check lost the Chinese Civil War against its former comrades and allies in the Chinese Communist Party of Mao Tzetung, exiled in Taiwan in 1949 and imposed a right-wing and conservative totalitarian rule for over 60 years; due to a lot of serious mistakes, it is now declining in influence in Taiwan. The Chinese characters reads "the revolution has failed and comrades must repent."
Figure CTN-22. Celebrate the Great Victory of the Hong Kong People. This cartoon celebrates the electoral victory of Hong Kong's moderate liberal and conservative parties (the "Establishment") over political extremism and lawlessness of both ultra-left and ultra-right wing factions (the "Opposition") in Hong Kong politics.
